Coconut palm wood, shark teeth, human hair, fibre binding 73 cm, base 4 cm A ceremonial duelling sword of the I-Kiribati people, used in duels between rival villages to settle disputes and defend honour. The frame is edged with rows of drilled shark teeth bound on with sennit and human hair.
